The ULC Group and architectural partner MedicomZes have won the EMVI-contract for the construction of the Amsterdam Skills Centre for Health Sciences (ASC). The ASC is a joint initiative of the AMC and the VUmc and will be an international training centre for medical specialists. The centre will become a leading facility for users in the medical world and is an example of the intensive collaboration between the AMC and the VUmc.
On the 24th of January this year, the building contract was signed based on UAV-gc. The ULC Group is responsible for the design and the technics in the new Amsterdam Skills Centre.
The old kitchen building of the medical centers will be used as a high-quality surgical training institute for international users after the renovation. It concerns building-bound installations, freezer rooms, all permanent installations and facilities of the terrain.
Most of the installations that are present in a hospital will also be present in the training centre, including complex air treatment installations and the necessary gas installations. The coordination of the delivery and the installation of the medical (training) equipment are carried out by building and installation partners MedicomZes and ULC.
The Amsterdam Skills Centre will be located on the terrain of the AMC in Amsterdam-Zuidoost (South east) and offers, among other things, educational facilities, training laboratories, simulators, office spaces, showroom, reception and catering industry areas. The facility must accommodate frequently changing setups and training sessions. Walls between the laboratories, the auditorium, and the educational rooms can be moved away. Furthermore, the equipment will be easy to connect, to remove and to store. The total floor area comprises 3.807 m2 of which a part of the frame will be delivered for future furnishing. The completion is planned around November 2018. From then on, the installations will support both national and international medical specialists in generating new skills.
