Education
The Faculty of Applied Sciences is the largest faculty of the TU Delft. Finding innovative solutions to social problems is central here. The faculty building was built by the combination Hurks – Kuijpers/ULC in collaboration with laboratory designer Waldner. The building is unique both from an installation-technical perspective and from an architectural point of view. The present facilities offer every end user exactly what they need. The building can be used flexibly for innovative laboratory research, high-quality education, as a meeting place or university library.
The building consists for the most part of laboratories for the departments BioNanoscience, Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology. The departments meet the highest requirements in terms of vibration, temperature stability and ventilation. A heat-cold storage (HCS) provides sustainable heating and cooling for the entire building. This HCS also heats the adjacent Holland PTC (Holland Particle Therapy Centre).
What is special is that the integral coordination between the building components has been fully elaborated in BIM (Building Information Model), from design to engineering. In this project BIM is also used for the management of the building, especially to see how the things that need to be replaced look and where it is located. Ector Hoogstad Architects called the application of BIM at TNW ‘Best practice’.
